Baby, let your 2014 light shine...

"To love beauty is to see light" Victor Hugo

Light is magical!

Light is electrifying!

Light is life!

What place, thing, person, book, music etc. makes you smile like a kid? What is that one thought that warms up your entire body, crinkles your eyes and makes you wanna wish this feeling would stay with you forever and ever and ever and ever... ?

As Canadians, we have to battle the winter - literally! Be it snow storm, ice storm or power outages, the winters here ca be challenging and long if you don't have something to look forward to once December 1st comes along. Since we are not the only ones on this planet having to endure cold and endless winters ( hint hint nudge nudge Russia, the North Pole etc. ), I find that complaining about it won't change mother nature's decision to burry us in the beautiful winter whites. In fact, it will make us more depressed, overweight and dissatisfied with our quality of life. So, what do we do? We put the fun in winter and start creating magical moments in the frozen landscape.

Winter magic for me is light! Or better yet, the display of lights dressing up our beautiful Toronto during the winter holidays.

I love Christmas lights display! I feel like I can jump around, walk in circles, raise my hands up up in the air and tip-toe through the streets of downtown Toronto not giving rats about what other people think of me - not that I normally care about everybody's opinion, just the ones who matter to me ;). I am in love! I am in love with the festivity of the concrete jungle, I am in love with the chills in my body, the bundling up in my 2 metre long scarf, I am in love with bumping into another person while starring at the dangling lights above Nathan Phillip's Square skating arena. Basically, all that would otherwise be considered excruciating winter pains, I am in love with! Why? Because I am ALIVE! AND. YOU. ARE. TOO.

If you are in Toronto during this time of the year, grab your parka jacket, grab 2 tres chaut (very hot) hot chocolates, then grab your lover's hand for you will have a magical walk in the heart of our crackled city.

I want you to really take in all of these small places I filmed for you! Really, move away from the 'this is boring' mentality and start appreciating you, me, us, the sweat of the workers putting up these light fixtures, the pressed pencil marks on the architect's paper, the manufacturer's assembling of the LED garlands lights in the flickering on that one neon light. Yes, it may not be the Fete des Lumieres festival in Lyon, France! That's not the point! The point is to appreciate what you have right here, right now, and make the best out of it. Do you want to know why? Because when you start noticing the little things and are grateful for every tiny detail of what makes life so extraordinary, your life will become more significant! How can you really take in all these massive, beautiful, breath taking, overwhelming wonders of life if you can't enjoy the small delights of living?

Here is another interesting thought of light coming from the Diwali Hindu festival... What do you say if we were to celebrate light over darkness? Victory over defeat?  Knowledge over ignorance? Hope over despair? Details over generality? Peculiar over ordinary? You at your best vs. you at your lowest? You reaching for the stars and allowing your light to shine through vs. you feeling like you are not good enough? Now over yesterday?

"To love beauty is to see light" (Victor Hugo) means so much more than beats the eye.

At times, you will find writers associate light with one's soul or energy. Proverbially, philosophers talk about allowing your light to shine through in association with allowing yourself to be at your best, allowing yourself to speak your mind, allowing yourself to follow your dreams, allowing yourself to have principles and values to show to the world. Ironically, one way that scientists study light is by means of energy; an electromagnetic wave known as radiant energy is calculated by integrating its flux over a period of time which would render you into the abyss of 'which teacher was I making fun of in my physics class when I should have been paying attention to the chalk leaving it's marks and residue on the blackboard!?' And while we are not all researching radiometry, solar energy, heating or lighting in our carriers, I want to leave you with the following magical philo' thoughts*...

*philo' thoughts - philosophical thoughts*

Each and everyone of us has this amazing copyright mark, also known as authenticity, originality, apartness... Sometimes our copyright mark shows up in our early childhood, other times it develops later on in our lives, however... WE. CAN. BE. ANYTHING. WE. WANT. TO. BE.

And here is why...

~ We are creators, inventors, geniuses.
As a species, we are the most advanced creatures on this planet. I don't think you really appreciate this right now so I will say it again: As a species, we are the most advanced creatures on this planet !

Look around you for a second... What do you see? A pen, a phone, your shoes, a table, a computer... What is the source of all these tools we have? Where did they come from? Did they grow on trees? Did they blossom from a stem? No! You, me, your grandmother and neighbour created all these amazing tools. Superficially, you might say that 'yeah, I get your point, but me becoming the CEO of my company takes much more than acknowledging the fact that we are creators of tools'. Well, YES, that's true PARTIALLY.  If I were to give you a time machine and allow you to go back in time 1500 years ago, step in front of crowd and say that you are the CEO of your company, your people will look at you and yell out 'Thy is possessed! Kill thy demon!' Truth of the matter is, if that person did it, you can too. And you don't have to stop at being a manager, or CEO, because these are limitations of social stigma. You have to expand in all areas of your life - invent yourself and how you want to be regarded, create your environment and control who and what goes in it because it will affect your quality of life, take the time to reflect on past happenings and design your future 3 months at a time.

You are only limited by your own boundaries and mediocre thoughts of what you are allowed to dream of as a life you deserve. Let your light shine through!

~ Our fuel is priceless.
We operate on emotions, support, confidence, desire. Our power is "materialless". Our state of mind is our guarantee of success.

We will always be at our most productive when we are happy. And by happy I don't mean intoxicated happy - though that often happens, by happy I mean happy with ourselves, our lives, all of the things that we have created, including ourselves. At times, we seek happiness in material objects like our paycheque, value of our car, name of our designer clothes, price of rare meat dinner. We lie to ourselves all the time and seek validation through others: ' Oh, they drive a Porche! Look at that driver, she looks so secure and settled in her own skin. I want to look like that and drive a sports car.' Yes, looking at your Porche will bring you some form of happiness especially if you appreciate its craftsmanship, but this happiness is time limited. This happiness won't fill your soul with gratitude when you wake up early in the morning or make you confident and self-assured. Happy, confident and self-assured people feel these emotions before they get their Porche! Our drive and passion for life and living is rooted in emotions and our mental state. It takes so little to keep us, humans, running! All we need is positive emotions, positive thoughts and a positive energy alongside a kick-ass strategy to improve ourselves and our lives... the little things like success and Porches will come if you let your light shine through!

~ Adaptation and survivals skills makes us chameleon warriors.
There is un unbeatable human desire for evolving, moving forward and problem solving. Adaptation has taught us to find multiple ways to convey our message.

A more tangible angle of what I mean by being a chameleon warrior is portrayed through the choice of who we want to become. It is believed that for many years, religion and politics controlled the way  humans evolve and how much power they have over the course of their life. Most religions controlled our social and sexual behaviour via. divine books that I would term in modern days as etiquette books: stay within boundaries, don't reach for the stars, have no sexual desires and accept what's given to you without question. If you were a lumber worker or a house wife, society pressured you to stay in your own little box of mediocrity and not demand a better living thinking that you were born with only so much potential to get you through an uneventful life. But we have learned how to push these boundaries and impose our own authenticity on religion, the government and other 'rulers' aiming to dethrone the beauty of the human kind. We have won wars against massive armoury, illnesses, depression and even wars against each other. It seems that these days were still fighting - against thyself. We have this beautiful soul hidden deep down inside, we aspire to be kinder and more rational but are afraid of allowing our light to shine through. We are fighting against ourselves, against our own liberty and freedom of fulfilling our sole purpose of simply allowing our light to shine through!

I hope you guys liked this post, I hope it inspired you to dismiss your fears and I hope it created that feeling telling you - IT'S. TIME. FOR. MY. LIGHT. TO. SHINE.
